Frances Ridley Havergal (Photo credit: Wikipedia) Ahem, where was I? Havergal wrote this hymn in 1876, and learning the story behind the song only deepened my love for it. The original hymn writer was Frances Havergal (who sounds like one cool lady! A woman skiing the alps in the 1800’s? You go girl!). Here’s another redone classic hymn, Take My Life (and Let it Be) redone by the king of contemporary christian music himself, Chris Tomlin.
I love the mix of hardcore lyrics with modern melodies. I don’t know if it’s because the writers centuries ago took on more “meat” when they sat down to write or if it’s because our modern songs generally have fewer verses, but I just love them.
